SUMMARY ACHIEVEMENTS 2022
1. The newly appointed National Coordinator of the GYEITI Dr. Prem Misir had a series of engagements with members of the Diplomatic Community and the EITI International Secretariat on his assumption of Office. These engagements focused on governance issues and the promotion of the work of the GYEITI. On March 24, 2022 he met with Officials of the US Embassy and in April 2022 he met with the Officials of the British High Commission in Guyana .
2. In May 2022, the GYEITI duly completed the FY 2019 Report in keeping with EITI International Secretariat requirements. The Guyana EITI Secretariat facilitated the work of the international consultant from BDO LLP who was recruited to undertake the exercise. The GYEITI acts as liaison between the reporting companies / agencies and Consultant. 3. The Guyana Secretariat was able to foster and enhanced its relationship with key government agencies including the GGMC, the GGB, GRA, Deeds and Commercial Registry, the Ministry of Finance, the Audit Office of Guyana the Ministry of Agriculture, the Guyana Forestry Commission. A MOU with the Deeds Registry was entered into which will allow for greater collaboration.
4. In June 2022, the GYEITI hosted the visit of EITI International Director Dr. Robinson. There were a number of engagements with government Ministers, the Multi stakeholders’ group and other key stakeholders in Industry and civil society over the two-day visit. 5. The GYEITI Secretariat hosted a number of awareness sessions to promote the GYEITI and to build capacity among the stakeholders . During July and August 2022 GYEITI Secretariat engaged schools in region number 4 and other regions and presented phablets and gift certificates to top performers in these schools. 6. The MSG met monthly for 2022 under a rotating chairmanship arrangement. The GYEITI Secretariat continued to support the work of the MSG and the implementation of its decisions.
7. The MSG Communications Committee deliberated on a new Communication strategy for the Guyana Secretariat. One of the areas that was addressed is the content of the Guyana EITI website to which significant changes were made in the format and content to enable greater accessibility. New Committees were established to further facilitate the implementation of the Secretariat’s workplan which is aimed at achieving the EITI standards for transparency in the natural resources sector. The Capacity Building Committee will focus on capacity building efforts for both the MSG and the GYEITI Secretariat and where necessary other key reporting agencies. The Legal and Regulatory Review Committee will focus on reviewing matters of legal and regulatory nature such as the matter relating to beneficial ownership and the confidentiality of information in agencies such as GRA and NICIL.
