What role do Indigenous leaders play in promoting transparency and accountability in the management of Guyana’s natural resources?

More than ten (10) Toshaos and Village Leaders from across Guyana recently participated in a GYEITI engagement session during the National Toshaos Council (NTC) Executive Meeting 2026. The session focused on transparency, accountability, natural resource governance, and the importance of access to information in supporting informed decision-making within Indigenous communities. Through presentations and discussions, participants explored Guyana’s EITI implementation, the role of civil society, and opportunities for Indigenous communities to engage in conversations about the extractive sector.
