All active Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Non-governmental Organizations(NGOs) duly registered under the laws of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, especially those with interests and activities in the extractive sector, are invited to caucus to complete the nomination of civil society representation on the Multistakeholder Group (MSG) of the Guyana Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (GYEITI), on October 19 – 20, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 pm, at the Marriot Hotel located at Block Alpha Battery Road, Georgetown, Guyana. The MSG oversees the implementation of the EITI Requirements in Guyana.
The EITI Standard is the global benchmark for transparency and accountability in the oil, gas, and mining sectors. As a framework for disclosure and multi-stakeholder oversight, the EITI Standard is designed to empower governments, industry and civil society to promote understanding of natural resource management; strengthen public and corporate governance and accountability; and provide data to inform policymaking and dialogue.
Day One of the meetings will focus on reviewing the eligibility criteria and nomination process for selecting civil society representatives to the MSG in line with Requirement 1.4 of the EITI Standard. The requirement states that each stakeholder group must have the right to appoint its own representatives, taking into account pluralistic and diverse representation. CSOs must have the independence and autonomy in setting their own rules for selecting representatives. At the meeting, civil society representatives will also select two representatives to sit on a vetting panel as well as nominate their prospective representatives to the MSG.
Day Two of the meeting will focus on the final selection/election process and outline the responsibilities of civil society representatives on the MSG.
